ELECFREAKS Smart Cutebot Kit (EF08209) – Programmable Robot Car for BBC micro:bit, Without micro:bit Board
The ELECFREAKS Smart Cutebot is a compact rear-wheel-drive robot car controlled by a BBC micro:bit board. It features two high-speed motors, an ultrasonic sensor, two line-tracking sensors, two RGB headlights, and a buzzer. It assembles in about 20 seconds with no soldering and is programmed in MakeCode, MicroBlocks, or Python. The BBC micro:bit board and batteries are not included.
Description
The ELECFREAKS Smart Cutebot is a programmable robot for STEM learning that helps children progress step by step from simple graphical coding blocks to more complex tasks. The robot has a lot of built-in equipment: an ultrasonic distance sensor, two line-tracking sensors, two RGB LED headlights, two Neopixel rainbow LEDs underneath, and an active buzzer that works as a car horn.
With the Cutebot you can learn to avoid obstacles, follow a line, drive the robot remotely (Bluetooth, infrared remote, or Joystick:bit), create light shows, and play sounds. Assembly is easy – it takes three steps and about 20 seconds, so it also works well for whole-class lessons.
The robot is an entry-level model. It uses standard motors without feedback control, so driving in a perfectly straight line is harder than on the upgraded Cutebot Pro, which has encoder motors with PID control.

Good to Know
- The BBC micro:bit board and 3 AAA batteries are not included – they must be purchased separately. For rechargeable power, a compatible lithium battery pack is available as an add-on.
- The motors have no feedback control, so slight deviations from a straight path are normal and not a fault. For the straightest driving, set both motor speeds to 50%.
- The ultrasonic sensor must be plugged into the SONAR port – if it is connected incorrectly, the robot may not drive.
- For higher precision and longer run time, the manufacturer offers the upgraded Cutebot Pro (encoder motors, 4 line-tracking sensors, built-in rechargeable battery).
